Treasures in the Treasure State

Red Lodge Jewelers

Montana is called the Treasure State for its rich mineral deposits, such as gold, silver, and sapphires, which are one of the state’s gemstones and agate. There are two kinds of sapphires found in Montana, the Yogo Sapphire and Fancy Montana Sapphires (I love that name!) They are located in different areas of the state, with the Yogo Sapphires found only in the Yogo Gulch area in Judith Basin County, Montana. Fancy Montana Sapphires can be located at the Missouri River near Helena, Rock Creek in the Sapphire Mountains, and Dry Cottonwood near Deer Lodge. These sapphires are smaller and come in various colors, such as green, light blues, pinks, yellows, and oranges.

These sapphires are made into custom-designed jewelry around Montana’s Yellowstone Country. There are several fantastic jewelry designers and stores in our quaint towns. Montana attracts artists of all types, and the jewelry found here is one of a kind. We’ve rounded up a list of our favorite jewelry stores and designers, but you’ll find treasures in galleries and boutiques across the region.

Have fun adorning!
