Silesia

A few miles southwest of Billings, the old farming community of Silesia is shaped by local history and wide-open Montana landscapes. Named for the nearby Silesia Springs, this small town draws visitors with its western hospitality, friendly businesses and access to outdoor recreation.

Silesia sits near the confluence of the Yellowstone and the Clarks Fork of the Yellowstone rivers, a hotspot for anglers targeting walleye and rainbow trout. Nearby Cooney State Park is another outdoor favorite — offering campgrounds, swimming access, dark skies for stargazing and big mountain views and excellent ice fishing in winter.

The surrounding Pryor Mountains are culturally significant to the Apsáalooke (Crow) people and are home to powerful tribal stories passed down for generations. After a day of adventure in these mountains, head back into town for a mix of small-town charm and quirky roadside Americana — from old-school drive-ins to handcrafted statues and wood-carved bears.

Live Like a Local

Locals head to The Cottonwood, the area's equine event and concert hub. From barrel races and roping clinics to live music and holiday events, it’s a go-to gathering place for fun, food and community pride.

Trip Tip

Swing by the retro Quick Stop Drive In for stacked sandwiches, 60+ ice-cream flavors, and seasonal treats like the Pumpkin Pie Cyclone. Snap a photo with the vintage Model T sculptures and the row of carved wooden bears. Open in the warmer months only; find it in Rockvale, between Silesia and Joliet, at the Hwy 212 / US-310 junction.

Events

Silesia keeps things lively with seasonal equestrian events, music nights and family-friendly festivals held at The Cottonwood Equine Center nearby.
