Montana Backstories

Yellowstone Country’s small towns are its heart, but what truly sets them apart are those who call them home. These dedicated individuals protect, preserve and celebrate this remarkable place through their work and their passion. Their businesses are a reflection of their love for Montana — a way to share its beauty and character while showcasing the care and stewardship that keep this place special. Yellowstone Country is pretty darn phenomenal on its own, but it’s got soul because of these incredible people.

B Bar Ranch

Maryanne Mott is the owner of B Bar Ranch, a 9,000-acre working cattle ranch and guest ranch just north of Yellowstone National Park. But she refers to herself as the ranch’s steward, dedicated to the well-being of the land, the animals and the guests who spend time here. In offering guests charming accommodations, chef-driven meals, recreation and yoga opportunities and chances to learn about the ranch’s regenerative agriculture practices, she and her team share “the peace, complexity and beauty of the total environment.” “I hope guests leave with a feeling they did not have as they arrived — something … that goes with them and hopefully they retain and are enriched by as they go about their lives,” Mott says.
