Winter Events in Montana's Yellowstone Country!
Here in Montana’s Yellowstone Country, we’ve got a long list of family-friendly events on the docket for the remainder of the winter —from the Wild West sport of ski joring to Broadway musicals and everything in between.
This weekend marks the first Kids ‘n’ Snow of the season. Each winter, the town of West Yellowstone welcomes local and visiting kids to a series of weekends designed for kids and their families to get outdoors and try a new activity, like ice skating, cross-country skiing or snowshoeing. The program is wildly popular and is a great way to get kids excited about being outside during the winter!
The Bozeman Winter Farmers’ Market is in full swing, with markets occurring most Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon. You’ll find all kinds of interesting, locally grown, raised, or made goods, such as grains, honey, meats, veggies, baked goods, preserves and crafts.
Big Sky Resort has a torchlight parade and fireworks on Christmas Eve, and Bridger Bowl’s annual torchlight parade, fireworks and spaghetti feed is on Dec. 30 — the day BEFORE New Year’s Eve. See how they did that?
The second of three Moonlight Ski and Snowshoe is on Jan. 10 at Rendezvous Ski Trails in West Yellowstone. Gather with the US Forest Service under the full moon and ski or snowshoe to a blazing bonfire with hot cocoa and s’mores.
Also, at the Rendezvous Ski Area, Taste of the Trails allows Nordic skiers to enjoy a leisurely ski trip with tasty food stations from local chefs. Cross Culinary — Taste of Red Lodge is on the other side of our region on the same day (Feb. 15) at the Red Lodge Nordic Center.
Best of the West Showdown, Big Sky’s annual ski joring event has been extended to three days, Feb. 7-9, followed by the National Finals Ski Joring in Red Lodge, March 8-9. If you haven’t experienced it, it’s wild west rowdiness at its finest as horseback riders pull skiers through a course full of jumps and obstacles, competing for the fastest time.
Broadway in Bozeman presents Chicago, the Musical on Feb. 26 at the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse at Montana State University.
Of course, you can always find live music at our local taverns and music venues, along with tons of community events. Watch our events page — we look forward to hosting you!
