Unique Lodging in Montana's Yellowstone Country
Although summer may be winding down, autumn in Montana's Yellowstone Country is one of our favorite times of year. It's a great time to explore our region's nooks and crannies, hop in the car, head out for a spontaneous overnight in one of the area's unique lodging options, and enjoy dinner at a local restaurant.
Here are a few of our favorites, but you can't go wrong in any of our charming towns. Here's to adventuresome days and cozy nights!
Bozeman
Lewis and Clark Motel
In Bozeman, the Lewis and Clark Motel is delightful—it has an indoor heated pool, a eucalyptus steam room, a hot tub, and an infrared sauna. It's also centrally located within walking distance of downtown and just a few blocks away from Montana State University (in case you're coming for a Bobcat football game!).
Sapphire Motel
This newly remodeled motor inn offers retro charm with modern comfort. It's affordable and convenient, and its rooms are designed specifically for families or groups. Walk to downtown or midtown—perfect for dining, shopping, and live music.
RSVP
Also, a remodeled motor inn is now a boutique hotel; RSVP has charming rooms, a lovely eatery, complimentary bikes, and an outdoor pool. But don't worry about it being too frilly. They aptly describe the vibe as a place where Stetsons and whiskey pair well with sun hats and a little bubbly.
Three Forks
RSVP
The Sacajawea Hotel is part of the Historic Hotels of America down the road in Three Forks. It has a sweeping wraparound porch equipped with rocking chairs, where you can relax and enjoy the sunset. The rooms have been beautifully restored, and dining options include fine dining at Pompey's Grill or more casual fare at the Sac Bar.
Absarokee
Stillwater Lodge
The Stillwater Lodge, a local favorite, is a charming lodge nestled at the base of the Beartooth Mountain Range. Its central location is perfect for those looking to escape the crowds, yet it is central enough to access fishing, hiking, and some spectacular scenic drives. Enjoy nearby restaurants like the Edgar Bar or MontAsia.
Silver Gate
Silver Gate Lodging
Silver Gate Lodging (named after the town) offers an array of accommodations, from rustic cabins and large homes to hotel rooms in the classic Range Rider Lodge. A vast wilderness surrounds this quiet haven, located just outside the Northeast Entrance to Yellowstone and flanked by the Beartooth Highway on the other side. Fall is a fantastic time for wildlife watching; the bison and elk ruts often bring sparring bulls, and the bears are actively preparing for winter.
Big Sky
Montage Big Sky
For a luxury experience, Montage Big Sky is the place to go. The 11,000-square-foot on-site spa includes a tranquil indoor pool area, twelve treatment rooms, heated plunge pools, and steam rooms. Kids love the bowling alley, and with five different dining options, there's something for every tastebud!
West Yellowstone
1872 Inn
For empty nesters, the 1872 Inn is an adult-exclusive boutique hotel in West Yellowstone. The lodge-inspired feel features in-room gas fireplaces, large double showers, and handmade custom furniture.
Big Timber
The Grand Hotel
This historic hotel is on the National Register of Historic Places. Each room is uniquely decorated with a mix of traditional and comfortable elements. The pub is a lively place to spend the evening, or you can relax and enjoy a leisurely dinner in the dining room.
Gardiner

Riverside Cottages
Set on the banks of the Yellowstone River, you'll enjoy the large deck and pergola overlooking this magnificent river. Anglers have fishing access or stroll along the banks for a leisurely walk. Choose from five cottages, seven suites, or four studios.
Belgrade
The Outpost
Montana's only micro-hotel, this quaint hotel is in downtown Belgrade, just minutes from Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport. The rooms are self-check-in, clean, comfortable, and in the center of the outdoor adventure in the Gallatin Valley.
Red Lodge
The Pollard Hotel
The rich and mysterious history of The Pollard includes famous guests like Calamity Jane and Buffalo Bill Cody. Enjoy the historical relics in the lobby, breakfast, or lunch at Marli's Restaurant, and if you're interested, ask about the ghost stories.
Livingston
Murray Hotel
The historic Murray Hotel is located in the heart of Livingston, amid fine dining, boutique shopping, and more art galleries and bookstores than you'll find in most towns. It was also one of the late Anthony Bourdain's favorite hotels, an impressive acknowledgment!
Graybow Hotel
Founded by William and Elizabeth Grabow in 1911, The Graybow boasted luxuries like hot and cold running water and a fine European-style restaurant. When William died in 1918, Elizabeth ran the hotel until it closed in 1936 due to the Depression. In 1998, the couple's grandchildren bought and restored the building, which is once again a functioning hotel.
