Things to do With Dad in Montana's Yellowstone Country
As we head into Father’s Day weekend, it’s only fitting to drop some hints about things to do with Dad! From outdoor adventure to live music Montana's Yellowstone Country holds something for everyone. And, we've got some some darn good grub to wrap up the day.
Guided Fishing Trips
Guided fishing trips are one of the region’s top attractions. The Gallatin, Madison, Yellowstone, Boulder, Shields and Stillwater Rivers all run through our region and attract anglers from across the globe. Even experienced fly fishers can benefit from a guided trip where local experts know what’s working, where the honey holes are, and how to maneuver down the river while being respectful of other anglers. You can find a list of guides in our area here.
Big Sky
For the golfers out there, there's some fantastic courses in our region, including some that fly under the radar, such as Headwaters Golf Course in Three Forks, Overland Golf Course in Big Timber and Red Lodge Golf Course.
Scenic Drive Over the Beartooth Highway
Speaking of Red Lodge, a great way to see the Beartooth Highway is on a historic bus from Yellowstone. These 1936/1937 Model 706 Yellowstone Park Buses are available for tours by reservation only and can accommodate up to ten people. The bus travels slowly, and if the weather permits, they roll back the canvas, allowing riders to stand and take in the stunning views.

Racing or Rodeo?
If speed is more your style, Gallatin Speedway is up and running every Friday in Belgrade. Or you can catch one of the weekly rodeos at Valley View Rodeo in Bozeman, Lone Mountain Ranch Rodeo in Big Sky, or the West Yellowstone Rodeo.
For the Thrill Seekers
West Yellowstone is also one of the state’s most popular areas for ATV/UTV riding. In the summer, hundreds of miles of snowmobile trails are maintained by the U.S. Forest Service. The trail system is well marked with excellent, well-maintained trails, and free trail maps are available. There are several rental options, along with guided tours for less experienced riders.
And for the thrill-seeking dads out there, it’s whitewater rafting season! In addition to guided rafting trips, Montana Whitewater has zip lines in both the Gallatin Canyon and Gardiner.

Good Grub
Of course, we would suggest wrapping up the day with a good dinner. Follow Yer' Nose BBQ in Emigrant is a local favorite, along with Land of Magic Steakhouse in Logan and the Fainting Goat Pub in Livingston.
Live Music
We also know plenty of dads out there who love live music, and Yellowstone Country has plenty of options! You can read more about the live music scene here.
Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there!
