Summer Fun in Montana's Yellowstone Country

The summer fervor has officially hit! Farmers markets in Livingston and Big Sky began this week; Valley View Rodeo hosted its first competition; and the Montana Renaissance Festival kicks off in Red Lodge this weekend. (You can find a full rodeo schedule here — there are more performances than ever this summer, but you’ll still want to get your tickets in advance as they often sell out!)

The Summer Concert Series at Shane Lalani Center for the Arts began this week. These family-friendly, free concerts take place under the Blake Pavilion each Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. through June and July. Food trucks and cold beverages are available for purchase, and the lineup of music is terrific.

Montana Shakespeare in the Parks begins its summer tour in Bozeman at the Duck Pond on the Montana State University campus June 11-14. They have twelve performances in our region this summer, so be sure to check the schedule when planning your trip! This year, they will be performing As You Like It and Henry V. All performances are free, outdoors (under a cover), and open to the public!

It’s also whitewater rafting season. As the snowmelt hits, the Gallatin and Yellowstone rivers start running fast. If you’re not interested in experiencing the thrill, stopping and watching the kayakers and rafters navigating the run is still fun. You can find more information on locations, guide services and rentals here.

And, while it seems premature, one of the most visited topics on our blog is a list of our annual Fourth of July celebrations. (We must admit, it is a favorite holiday!) You’ll find activities across Montana’s Yellowstone Country — fun runs, parades, live music, rodeos, fireworks and revelry.

For those who prefer a quieter vacation, we have four of Montana’s State Parks to explore, plenty of waterfalls to chase, and hundreds of miles of scenic drives where you can relax and take in the jaw-dropping scenery.

Wishing everyone a fun-filled, joyous summer!
