Step out of the city lights and become a star-gazer. Camping in Montana’s Yellowstone Country is nothing short of breathtaking. Cool summer air entices even the locals to sleep under the stars and dine al fresco. Whether you’re an adventurous backpacker or just enjoy time hanging with the kids around a campfire, the backdrop for memorable vacations couldn’t have been painted more beautifully. National Forests and State Parks both have campsites and most now take reservations. Private campgrounds are available, and both public and private campgrounds include amenities such as picnic tables, bathrooms and water pumps. Keep in mind the fact that temperature and weather swings can be quite dramatic, so be sure to pack adequate clothing and shelter.
If camping in Yellowstone National Park, you can reserve a campsite or arrive early as spots are first-come, first-served and generally fill up by 11am, each day. Same day reservations can be made by calling 307.344.7901; future reservations can be made by calling 1.866.GEYSERLAND (439.7375) or going online at the Yellowstone National Park Lodges website.
